Ahem, gifts. You love them, but they’re bad for the planet. Well, mostly. There are some sustainability-focused people who also have an entrepreneurial bent, and they’re the ones we need to head towards if we want to buy something brand new that’s sustainable produced. Now that the dreaded day is coming up, here’s a cool list of the online shops for sustainable Valentine’s Day gifts (or any gift).
BTW, check out this post if you’re looking for sustainable alternatives to shopping on Amazon. We also have an entire guide on eco friendly gifts.
Before we jump in, I have to say two things about purchasing gifts:
- The best option is to not buy anything. Sad but true. Love doesn’t always require material proof;)
- The second best option is to buy pre-loved goodies. Secondhand good FTW!
- Buy sustainably made items.
This post covers option #3.
There are loads of online stores to buy stuff from, but which of them are the most considerate towards the planet? Certainly not Amazon, although they seem to have vastly reduced the plastic packaging. I mean, Amazon is needed for some items (and by many locations underserved by other commercial options), but – let’s face it – shopping on Amazon is more of a utilitarian chore than a delightful, aesthetic experience. (I am not a fan of the Amazon website’s appearance. It works wonderfully well, but is nothing much to look at.)
