Is Aveeno cruelty-free and vegan? If you are conscious about animal welfare and the impact of your purchasing decisions on the environment, then read on. In this post, we will help you make an informed decision when it comes to Aveeno’s practices and to choosing cruelty-free skincare products.
What Does Cruelty-free Mean?
Cruelty-free refers to products that have not been tested on animals. This includes both the final product as well as its ingredients. The practice of animal testing is often considered inhumane and unnecessary, as there are alternative methods available that are more reliable and do not involve the use of animals.
We have also answered the questions: is Maybelline cruelty free? Is Clinique cruelty free?
What is Aveeno?
Aveeno is a skincare brand that was founded in 1945. The company is well-known for the use of natural ingredients, such as oatmeal, in their products. Aveeno offers a range of skincare products, including moisturizers, cleansers, and sunscreens.
Is Aveeno Cruelty-free?
The answer to this question is no, not really. While Aveeno does not conduct animal testing on its products, it does sell its products in China. China requires imported cosmetics to be tested on animals, so any company that sells its products in China cannot be considered cruelty-free. Aveeno says, “Aveeno doesn’t conduct animal testing of our cosmetic products anywhere in the world, except in the rare situation where governments or laws require it.” There’s no information available about where it conducts these tests, or on which animals, etc.
It is important to note that Aveeno’s parent company, Johnson & Johnson, has made a commitment to ending animal testing. However, this is only a commitment so far (they still test on animals, either directly or through third parties), and it only applies to the products that Johnson & Johnson manufactures. It does not necessarily extend to its subsidiaries, such as Aveeno.
