If you’re like most people and have seen the utterly devastating bushfires in Australia on the news, you probably want to help. Listed below are some of the organizations you can donate to, to help the animals in Australia’s fires. This post will deal with financial donations to such organizations, because most of us (including me) reside outside Australia.
If you’re in Australia, then check this out for some of the ways you can help. Please take care of yourself, too, though. This is taking a huge emotional toll on anyone who cares even a little bit:(…You can donate to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service here and the Victorian Country Fire Association to directly support the incredible firefighters at the front line.
Now, if you’re despairing about all the hundreds of millions of animals that have been lost to the fires, the best thing is to take some sort of action. If you have extra money lying around, donating is the easiest, of course.
How to Help the Animals in Australia’s Fires
Here are some animal welfare and wildlife organizations that could use your help, that are working incredibly hard to save all the animals they can:
1 / WIRES
Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES) is a wildlife rescue nonprofit rescuing and caring for thousands of injured, orphaned, and homeless native animals.
2 / Port Macquarie Koala Hospital
Port Macquarie Koala Hospital will be installing automatic drinking stations for wild animals looking for water in the affected areas – with the donations they receive. They also plan to establish a wild koala breeding program.

3 / Friends of the Koala Inc.
Friends of the Koala is committed to conserving koalas and preserving and enhancing their habitat, particularly in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

4 / RSPCA of New South Wales
The RSPCA of New South Wales is evacuating, rescuing and treating domestic animals, livestock and wild animals in the affected areas.

5 / World Wildlife Fund
The donations to WWF will support the animals impacted by the fires, particularly the koalas.
6 / The Rescue Collective
The Rescue Collective works to support animal rescue, wildlife organizations and their volunteers across the East Coast of Australia

7 / Wild 2 Free Kangaroo Sanctuary
Wild 2 Free rescue, rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned baby kangaroos (aka joeys <3). Check out their Instagram here.
8 / Wildcare Australia
9 / Currumbin Wildlife Hospital
If you’re short on money, but have some mad crafting skills (or even just passable skills), try helping out with a local group aligned with the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild. What they’re doing is super cool – crafting linings, pouches and mittens to help with caring for little joeys:
Also, if you use Canva, like I do, then they’re donating all proceeds from any paid images used in your design towards Australia’s emergency bushfire relief and recovery programs. Canva’s an Australian company, if you didn’t already know.
If you have any more tips, please comment below. This is too huge a tragedy for the Australians to handle without everyone’s support. And if I’m feeling this heartbroken sitting so far away, I cannot imagine being on the front lines and encountering the devastation firsthand. Please, let’s all do whatever we can to help Australia get through this.
