It’s been over six months since we’ve been cooped up at home thanks to the lockdown. By now, if you’re like me, you will be itching to look at something new. Or redecorate, perhaps? One easy way to make a difference is by pampering your indoor plants. Have you used baskets as planters to house your precious indoor plants yet? Such decorative baskets are pretty easy to maintain and add a warm, cozy vibe to your home decor that is perfect for every season. We know this pandemic taught us to enjoy home life – let’s hunker down and beautify our homes, and improve our moods. Sustainably, though.
Take a look at some of the best lookin’ basket planters available on Etsy. They’re handmade from sustainable materials, and look stunning. Keep in mind that shipping challenges may not work in your favor with some of these shops, so be mindful. But they’re all small businesses that could use your support.
Tips for Setting Up Plants Inside Baskets
If you are setting your plants up inside baskets for your home garden:
- Make sure you line the inside of your indoor planters with either plastic (sigh) or a burlap sack. The lining material you use depends on how leaky your plant is, and how securely you want to protect the outer basket.
- Use a plastic saucer under the pot – to catch the water draining from the pot (or these bamboo saucers, if you’re not keen on plastic). This will prevent your basket from getting wet and soggy at the bottom.
- Take your pot out from the basket regularly (for a few hours) to let the soil dry out. This prevents rotting due to excess water, which you would not see otherwise because of the basket.
- You can also try hanging plants by using cotton rope to hang up the basket.
